David Murchison has broad experience in both the public and private sectors. Since early 2019, as IOGs’ lead internationally, his work has focused on international assignments where he has sought to advance IOG’s core mission overseas. Large assignments have included projects focused on decentralization efforts in Iraq in particular with the governments of Canada (Global Affairs Canada) and Germany (GIZ) being major funders.  

As a social scientist his work has covered policy development, regulation, strategic planning, organizational design and development, operations and programming evaluation. He has been responsible for work encompassing the public sector, the financial sector and infrastructure to name a few.  

David retired from the federal public service in October 2018, where his last position was Assistant Deputy Minister – Policy at Infrastructure Canada. Immediately prior, he was Canada’s Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank based in the Philippines. He was with Finance Canada’s Financial Sector Policy Branch for most of his time in government and had a 5-year stint in New York as Finance Canada’s representative.
