David Murchison

Vice-President, International

Mr. David Murchison is Vice President, International, at the Institute on Governance (IOG). In this role, he leads the IOG’s international programming and advisory work, supporting public purpose organizations around the world to strengthen governance and institutional performance. Since 2019, he has contributed to initiatives ranging from open banking in Canada to governance training in Southeast Asia and institutional reform in the Caribbean.

Prior to joining the IOG, Mr. Murchison held several senior roles in the Government of Canada, including Assistant Deputy Minister at Infrastructure Canada and Director General of both the Financial Sector and Securities Policy divisions at the Department of Finance. He also served as Canada’s Executive Director and Dean of the Board at the Asian Development Bank, overseeing multilateral lending and institutional governance.

Earlier in his career, he represented the Department of Finance in New York, led expert advisory panels, and worked in management consulting and the private sector. He began his career with Imperial Oil.

Mr. Murchison holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Queen’s University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors. He lives in Ottawa with his spouse Helga; their three sons are happily settled between Toronto and Montreal.
