The IOG offers four leadership development programs for current and aspiring executives and managers.
Our flagship Executive Leadership Program (ELP) prepares federal public sector leaders across Canada to navigate the rapid and complex changes of our times. As leaders, you are being called upon to develop and implement new policies and programs for difficult public sector challenges. The ELP will improve your strategic know-how, expand your understanding of complex and challenging issues, and give you practical insight and skills to perform and deliver better in your public service role.
Our Stepping Into the Executive Cadre (SIEC) program is specially designed for EX minus 1 and minus 2 aspiring executives looking to expand their public sector knowledge and hone their leadership skills to advance their careers in the public service. Structured around 3 themes – leading yourself, leading others, and leading your organization – the program will provide you with the perspective and vision essential to the executive level. You will learn from top former senior public servants and governance experts to facilitate your learning experience. You will develop your new and improved management skills through action-learning groups, discussion, and presentations. And you will join an overnight site visit outside Ottawa to meet and learn from leaders of other organizations in the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors.

DELP provides public sector executives with the digital literacy and leadership skills they need to be effective decision-makers in this rapidly changing policy and service delivery space.
If your work touches on science, innovation, and/or policy development and you’re finding yourself doing more and more leadership tasks, then the Leadership Development Program in Science and Innovation (LDPSI) is for you. You will develop new leadership competencies to help you understand the unique public service cultures surrounding science and innovation. You will learn the ‘ins and outs’ of communicating scientific knowledge and advising decision makers. And you will learn effective means of engaging stakeholders and citizens as part of your work.
