Rebuilding Trust and Transparency in Government

Join the Institute on Governance (IOG) and Evidence for Democracy (E4D) on May 29th from Noon to 1:30 pm (EST) for a virtual event exploring the critical issues of trust and transparency in democracy.

E4D and IOG have both released new research that examines both Canadians’ trust in and perceptions of transparency about government decision-making. This interactive event will feature two presentations, a discussion with the people behind the research, and time for questions from the audience. Join us for this timely event, and a conversation about solutions to restore trust and improve transparency in Canada’s public institutions.

Eyes on Evidence is a multi-year research project that E4D undertook on the transparency of evidence used in government decision-making in Canada. The results demonstrate that it is very difficult for citizens outside of the government to find the evidence behind policy decisions. Public opinion polling sheds light on the Canadian public’s perceptions of evidence use and transparency in government decision-making and our appetite for transparency. This presentation shares findings from E4D’s public poll and provides perspectives on how improving transparency could strengthen public trust. As Canadian governments are looking past the pandemic and toward recovery, it is important that the lessons learned on public trust are used to bolster the resilience of our democracy against ongoing and future challenges.

Don’t miss this opportunity to be a part of the conversation and gain insights into how we can work together to strengthen trust and transparency in our democratic institutions.
