Collaborative Governance and Accountability

Many of the policy challenges we face as a country will not be solved without collaboration from all orders of government. We need to do the following: end the housing crisis; build better infrastructure for long-term care; create a durable and effective climate plan that outlasts the tenure of any specific government; and, reset our health care system. These objectives are daunting and expensive. We need a framework for intergovernmental collaboration that makes it possible to address these challenges in the short, medium, and long term.

In this article by Sarah Ritchie of the Canadian Press, we learn that Canadians are split on which order of government to blame for the housing crisis. This speaks to the accountability challenge inherent in any federal system of government, as well as Canadians’ sense of frustration over the housing shortage.
