Patrick Galvin

Patrick Galvin received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Exeter in 2012. He was awarded a Post-doctoral Fellowship in 2013 to work on a project in the Innovation Policy Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto that sought to develop a new manufacturing innovation policy for the Canadian automobile sector for the 21^st century.

Since completing his Post-doctoral Fellowship in 2015, Patrick has created and taught courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in public policy, innovation policy, and the political economy of the welfare state, at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario where he has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics, and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Policy Studies.

Patrick is also a Research Associate in the Innovation Policy Lab in the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto.

In January 2021, Patrick started working with the Institute on Governance, which is based in Ottawa, Ontario. The project that he is working on, Government Science and Innovation in the New Normal, is a multi-year collaborative research initiative that provides an in-depth examination of the evolving relationship between science, innovation, and society and one that is also designed to support medium-term planning for the federal science and innovation departments and agencies. As an IOG Research Associate, Patrick is responsible for researching one of the principal themes of this project: Mission-driven Research and Innovation.
