The Institute on Governance has partnered with Advanced Symbolics as part of our ongoing research agenda concerning public sentiment on the most current and pressing governance issues of our time. Most recently the IOG commissioned a study comparing the attitudes of federal public servants to those of the general public on subjects related to governance in the digital era. The research framework used a self-learning artificial intelligence system to read and analyze opinions expressed on social media. The sample included over 88,400 Canadians who’s views and opinions are compared and
contrasted with the opinions of 900 federal public servants.
This research looks at opinions of these two groups in three main areas:
• The impact of the Digital Era on public policy;
• Digital public service delivery; and
• The future of open and connected government.
