This two-day course is the second in the Innovation, Science and Governance course series. ISG 2 offers an intermediate-level exploration of the integration of science, innovation and policy to drive evidence-informed decisions.

What you can expect

The course is delivered by seasoned policy practitioners who use real-world case studies and discussions to help improve your understanding of key challenges facing government researchers, innovators and policy analysts with a focus on how to deal with these situations.

Why the topic is important

Innovation and science are key contributors to the delivery of a broad range of public policy and regulatory mandates, but are not always well understood. Better integration of science and innovation policy and regulation is needed to support evidence-based decision-making but remains a challenge. There is demand for more public servants trained at the intersection of these areas.

What you will gain

By the end of the two-day course, participants will have:

  • Learned how to integrate science, innovation and policy;
  • Gained a better appreciation of innovation and science policy, both in terms of “policy for science” and “science for policy” and “innovation in government” and “government in innovation”;
  • Gained a better understanding of the key issues, ideas, interests, institutions and instruments underlying the government’s support of science and innovation in industry, academe and government laboratories;
  • Developed skills to support effective briefings; and
  • Acquired new tools and resources supporting ideation, collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
