Now more important than ever, this revised one-day course provides an overview of how policy is developed and put into practice by the federal government.

What you can expect

The course is delivered by seasoned policy practitioners, who use practical exercises and real-world case studies to help improve your policymaking skills. The course uses interactive discussions of key challenges facing policy analysts with a focus on how to deal with these situations.

What past participants have said about the course:

Why public policy development is important

The course underscores that policy analysts, program officers and managers work in a complex environment of conflicting demands, expanding knowledge, multiple stakeholders, and issues that cut across the mandates of various departments and agencies. • The structure of government and the range of challenges facing analysts in the current policy environment
  • The importance of evidence-based analysis and how to use quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze complex issues
  • The various stages of the policy development cycle and how these are changing in the current environment
  • The importance of effective communication and how to improve your capacity to present well-structured analyses
