Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, cryptocurrencies, data breaches, quantum computing, the gig economy, and social media: Government of the digital age faces unprecedented challenges as it attempts to walk the line between upholding the public interest and supporting the innovation that will drive the nation’s economy. Navigating waves of technological advances that come with increasing succession requires foresight as well as agility in the response, which in many ways runs counter to the bureaucratic systems in place. While significant progress has been realized over the past several years, many public institutions continue to grapple with how to effectively govern in the age of disruption.

The effectiveness of government’s response to technology that seemed distant only years ago will be critical to maintaining public trust, which is currently held by less than half of the population.

The fourth annual Digital Governance Forum focus on “Trust in the Age of Digital Disruption” and will convene political leaders as well as those from the public service, academia, and industry together to explore avenues by which trust may be increased. Discussions will focus on the most critical issues of the day, including:

  • The promise of new social collaborative tools to increase trust in government by providing a more effective means to increase the quality of citizen participation;
  • The ongoing transition to digital, citizen-centred public services including recognition of recent successes, areas for growth, and the governance implications of how to address the talent deficit.
  • The state of artificial intelligence policy in Canada and whether we are positioned to remain a global leader in this field; and
  • A consideration of privacy legislation in Canada in light of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The cost for this full-day event is $750 per person, but an early-bird discount of $50 is available before June 6th. As a not-for-profit the IOG does not charge tax. We will provide lunch so please advise us of any dietary restrictions when registering.
