The Need

The IOG is looking to increase its expertise in Public Sector Governance. The incumbent will develop a strategy for each IOG governance portfolio item, drive original research, events and advisory services, and promote good governance while seeking out partnership and funding opportunities.  They will also develop IOG positions on key public sector governance issues of the day and contribute to the development of materials for social media, articles and other outreach opportunities.  This position will report directly to the President/CEO.

The Challenge

Governments are facing a disruptive environment driven by the incremental speed of change they are facing. The IOG is looking to build its capacity so that it can contribute to improving public sector governance in response to the challenges faced by society and by governments.

The Role

As the Sr. Vice-President, Public Sector Governance of the IOG, the incumbent will take a leadership role in supporting the goals of the organization and setting the vision and strategy of Public Governance at the IOG. 

The incumbent isresponsible for overseeing the administration and programs of the governance portfolio in support of the annual Operational Plan and the long-term goals of the IOG.  Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and client outreach. 

This role involves meeting revenue targets and driving sustainable growth. The incumbent will take the lead in growing with colleagues the IOG’s expertise in the public sector governance space, building and promoting team collaboration and productivity as well as ensuring adherence to the values and behaviours of the organization.  This role leads the progressive development of public sector governance in a manner that adds to the reputation of the IOG as a leader in that area. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and grow IOG expertise in public sector governance.
  • Lead with a consulting services approach and seek ways to collaboratively support the IOG as a leader in public sector governance.
  • Contribute and support strategic planning initiatives and activities
  • Initiate and/or lead activities resulting in future growth, new streams of work or new markets, and alliances.
  • Effectively project manage and lead teams resulting in above-average net contributions to IOG overhead. 
  • Lead IOG research agenda on governance.
  • Contribute to IOG events and communication strategies.
  • Seek out opportunities to collaborate with the IOG team across portfolios resulting in benefits that directly impact the IOG.
  • Proactively act as an Ambassador of the IOG in all external relations.
  • Seek out opportunities to leverage and build significant new relationships and alliances with other sectors and organizations useful to the IOG.

Qualifications

  • A demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Public administration, political science and the function of government and the broader public sector;
  • A demonstrated understanding of governance issues and literature;
  • University degree or equivalent in a relevant area of study;
  • A minimum of ten to fifteen (10-15) years’ senior management experience, budget preparation, working within timelines and budgets;
  • Experience leading teams and supervising the work of others;
  • A strong network of contacts in the chosen discipline;
  • A demonstrated capacity to secure and deliver contracted work, and a satisfied clientele willing to stand reference;
  • An established track record of high-quality work performed to time and within budget;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communications in English (fluency in French a definite asset);
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly for a variety of purposes and audiences;
  • Ability and willingness to travel when required.
