Analysis of Some Indicators of Economic Development of First Nation and Northern Communities
Originally commissioned by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, this paper utilizes census data from three periods – 1990, 1995 and 2000 – aggregated at the community level for both First Nations and northern communities. Specifically it calculates and then analyzes growth in employment, average employment income and education attainment levels over this 10 year time period. The authors also ascertain whether there are correlations among these variables. Finally, the paper recommends further lines of inquiry.
