John Baird, Minister of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by Foreign Affairs critics, NDP MP Paul Dewar and Liberal MP, Marc Garneau, are in Iraq this week as part of a Canadian visit to the country where Canada is providing both moral support and has pledged $15m in supplies to support security.
The contingent, accompanied by Canada’s Ambassador to Jordan and Iraq, Bruno Saccomoni, met with Iraqi President Fuad Masoum as well as Foreign Affairs Minister Hoshyar Zebari. Today, they met with IOG President, Maryantonett Flumian who is leading the Institute on Governance contingent to Iraq, where the IOG is currently working with government and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) officials in Erbil to finalize the design of a Senior Executive Service (SES) system for the Regional Government of Kurdistan (KRG) public service.
IOG will also be assisting with establishing effective governance structures for humanitarian relief in the country.
