This one-day workshop is designed for managers and senior officers working in the new Results and Delivery environment.  The session picks up from our Results and Performance courses which include Delivering on ‘Deliverology’, Project and Program Management: Implementation for Delivery Excellence and Performance Measurement: Supporting Delivery of Results to provide hands-on instruction in designing Management Scorecards for monitoring performance and using the scorecard data to improve program results.

The session  includes two hands-on workshops in which participants work with data to create scorecards, learn how to create simple visualizations, and design a few analytic models. The session will not transform managers into analysts, but it will build skills enabling managers to take charge of their analytic requirements.

Using performance indicators to create a useful Management Scorecard including:
•    Management Scorecard structure
•    Horizontal and Vertical Analysis for defining improvement strategies
•    Persuasive visualizations that drive change
Using analytics well
•    Why you should worry about data types
•    How to answer the fundamental managerial question: “are the things we’re doing leading to the outcomes we want?”
•    Your role in managing data delivery

Course fee

The cost of this course is $890 (no HST) per person.  The price includes expert facilitation, lunch and course materials.  Registration is done through an online registration system where you can select to pay by credit card or request an invoice.

About the Instructor

Gregory Richards currently teaches at the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa. He has worked in the public sector at Transport Canada and Consulting and Audit Canada. He has been a consultant for the past 20 years working with just about every federal government department in Ottawa and with a number of provincial organizations. He was a Visiting Professor for two years at the Office of Personnel Management’s Western Management Development Centre in Denver, Co. He also worked at Cognos Incorporated helping customers around the world leverage Cognos software for managing organizational performance.

He currently heads up the Centre for Business Analytics and Performance and the Public Sector Performance Management research cluster at the Telfer School of Management.  Over the past ten years, Gregory has taught Organizational Behaviour, Strategy Formulation and Implementation, Organization Design, Performance Management, Big Data, Business Intelligence and Analytics, and Change Management. He has also conducted high performance survey and case study research in both the public and private sectors. This workshop draws on key concepts from previous course material, lessons learned through research, and practical knowledge from his consulting practice to deliver usable tools to help public sector managers create and sustain high performance workplaces.
