A highly intensive and practical 1-day workshop that will equip Federal managers with the skills and confidence to conduct those normally “dreaded” Employee Performance Appraisals/Reviews, with positive results in terms of both organizational objectives and employee morale and to assist in meeting the objectives of the federal government’s Performance Management Directive.

Participants will be able to:

• Set work objectives that will motivate and improve results
• Conduct effective performance discussions
• Provide effective feedback to employees who are ready for more challenging work as well as those whose work still needs to develop
• Maximize the benefits of the performance appraisal process
What you can expect
The Workshop is delivered by seasoned executives who have had extensive experience in conducting performance appraisals, using real-time exercises to help you hone your skills in all aspects of the performance appraisal process, from setting objectives through to having performance discussions to adjusting objectives within year and for the following year. Participants are invited to bring actual examples of performance objectives for class discussions.
The cost of this course is $890 (no HST) per person. The price includes expert facilitation, lunch and course materials. Registration is done through an online registration system where you can select to pay by credit card or request an invoice.
Why this Workshop is important
The federal government has announced that as of April 1, 2014, performance management will be a mandatory part of every manager’s responsibilities. This follows the best practice established in the private and public sector. And, in the current fiscal environment, every organization needs to maximize the growth and performance of its employees in order to efficiently and effectively obtain its desired results.
The value of an effective performance appraisal are often not well appreciated by managers unused to using one, nor are managers usually aware of how to establish and maintain an effective performance appraisal system. Too often, managers do not establish work objectives that are meaningful, measurable and motivating. This course helps managers, through exercises and discussion, to develop objectives that match the needs of their situation and employees.
Many managers shy away from performance management discussions, wishing to avoid conflict at any cost. Unfortunately, in the absence of any discussion the probability of the organization achieving its goals is greatly lowered. Managers have a responsibility to their employees to ensure their continual development, and this requires constant, albeit on occasion difficult, discussions with each employee. This course provides easily learned tools and techniques that take the “fear” factor out of performance discussions.
