Applied Research

Sometimes it's useful to see your department or organization in relation to other, similar ones, or to explore new ideas and options for improving your governance. It can give you a better perspective of the current environment and your organization's challenges and options. The Institute is often retained to do research for this purpose.

Research services include primary and secondary data collection, such as:

  • literature reviews
  • interviews
  • focus groups
  • case studies
  • online surveys

The results of any research work are written up and presented in a variety of formats, including client reports, diagnostic reports, literature reviews, case studies and policy briefs.

The IOG creates, shares and applies knowledge of governance.  Research is where it all starts:  our research informs our advice and the learning we offer.

  • the governance of First Nations and other Aboriginal communities and organizations
