The IOG celebrates 20 Years of Excellence

2010 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Institute on Governance!

Founding President Tim Plumptre and Associate Claire Marshall with Jean ChretienThe IOG began in 1990 as the brainchild of founding President Tim Plumptre, and quickly grew by leaps and bounds, expanding both its staff and expertise. The IOG was ahead of its time, recognizing governance as a key factor in the success of governments, organizations and democracies, and the need for an organization that would research, promote, and facilitate the application of good governance.

By the ten-year mark, the IOG had 15 staff in Ottawa, a small project office in Kuala Lumpur, and had worked in more than 20 countries.  The 2002 official launch of the Learning Centre formalized the existing workshops and programs that the IOG offered, and provided a focal point for ongoing learning and development. The Learning Centre has since welcomed several thousand participants to its workshops and has undertaken custom design for clients across the country and the world.  The IOG's course offerings, knowledge areas and services have steadily expanded by the year. To date the IOG has completed over a thousand projects for hundreds of clients in 35 countries.

Lesotho Youth Against HIV / AIDS programThe IOG now stands as a much-consulted independant source of knowledge and advice on governance in Canada and around the world. Although much has changed over the years, our original aim—to create, share and apply knowledge of governance—remains at the heart of the organization.
