IOG explores governance challenges of U.K.’s Big Society

The Institute on Governance hosted a series of learning events in Toronto and Ottawa with Tom Gash, Programme Director for the United Kingdom’s Institute for Government. Mr. Gash, who has been leading the UK Institute’s work on public service reform, focused some of his presentations on the impact of UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s Big Society initiative on the country’s civil service, offering lessons learned in areas of government accountability, innovation and efficiency that will be of interest to Canada.

Mr. Gash was previously a senior crime policy adviser in Tony Blair’s Strategy Unit and a strategy consultant at the Boston Consulting Group. In addition to his work on public service reform, he remains passionate about government crime policy and continues to contribute widely to public debates on crime and justice issues in a personal capacity. His book on crime policy Unusual Suspects will be published in 2012.

Please find below Mr. Gash’s keynote speech given at the initial Public Governance Exchange learning event in Toronto, Ontario.
